Our fireplace inserts use tempered glass. Should damage to the glass panel happen during shipping or after, there is no need to worry about anyone getting cut; it will shatter into the small, granular chunks of safety glass rather than the larger, sharp shards of standard glass. Tempered glass is heated and then cooled quickly during manufacturing to make it stronger and safer than standard glass.
