In the United States, outlets are wired to support the usage of 1500 watts. Because the Altra Fireplace Insert requires 1400 watts, the remainder is not enough to power most other appliances. Fireplaces should never be plugged into surge protectors or extension cords. It is also recommended that they be unplugged between use and routinely checked to ensure that there is a snug fit between the outlet and the plug.
